Izu Oceanic Park – I.O.P. is one of the most famous dive site in Japan. Started to operate since 1964 offering diving service and estabilished a diving training center with Tokay University Of Oceanology in 1966. Initially was envolved with fishing tests, aquariums, marine research companies and work related to marine leisure. Currently the activities are exclusively related to recreational dive like, diving guide, diving courses, rescue support, charge center and maintenance of diving cylinders.

    I had a fabulous experience at the IOP. Special mention of Otavio Munefica – who I dived with. A great guide and perfect teacher with a lot of knowledge about the fauna & also, most importantly a good sense of safety and sensible outdoor underwater behaviour.     Izu Ocean park is a great facility for those staying in Tokyo and wanting to make a day trip of diving! The member of staff who dealt with me Otavio was extremely professional, but also highly entertaining and kind. He essentially planned out my whole trip from Tokyo for me and then even came to meet me and drive me from the train station once I arrived! As for the dive sites – on the day I was there the visibility was not great, but I still saw lots of interesting things which I have never seen before, including many types of moray, a ray and a giant wrasse! In between dives you can warm up in an onsen which is right next to the centre I went in the middle of winter! and you are able to enter the dive sites directly from the shore. This place is not only perfect for those wanting to study or improve their dive skills, but also for those wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. It is certainly not Okinawa I had just come from a month in Okinawa in which I dived many every week! but that doesn’t mean it is not worth visiting! I highly recommend visiting here all year round, and for English speakers in particular who are worried about the lack of Japanese, I would definitely contact Otavio at the Ocean Park. He is multilingual and a brilliant instructor and guide who will improve your dive skills by simply being in his presence. Thank you for a wonderful day! I will be back. David
