Fakarava is undoubtedly the best place to dive in French Polynesia . In fact, this small Atoll, located almost 450 kilometers from Tahiti and about 150 kilometers from its big sister, Rangiroa, in the Tuamotus, is classified as Unesco Biosphere Reserve . This is the second largest atoll in French Polynesia . It is 60 kilometers long and nearly 20 kilometers wide. The main village of Fakarava is called Rotoava and has only about 800 inhabitants. In addition, the atoll has a 1400 meter long runway allowing the Tahiti airplanes to take us to this beautiful diving destination. On the other hand, do not expect to stay in a luxury hotel or a comfortable resort, there are only pensions and charming little hotels. There are only two passes in the atoll that include all Fakarava diving sites

.

Diving Fakarava South Pass, Tumakohua

The southern pass, known as Tumakohua or Tetamanu, is just as extraordinary, if not more so.It is somewhat more remote but offers some of the best dive sites of the pacific It is also accessible to all levels of diving.

Best time to dive in Polynesia?

There is no better season to dive in Fakarava. Weather conditions are slightly better between early April and late November. However, visibility and diving conditions are excellent all year round. The temperature of the water varies from barely 2 or 3 degrees Celsius at the end of the year.
