Galapagos is THE destination for scuba diving. The official name of this volcanic archipelago is “Colon Archipelago”. It is located west of the Ecuadorian coast and is composed of 22 islands and a hundred islets which offers a very diverse aquatic fauna making it a world famous destination for scuba diving. The Galápagos were known for the visit of Charles Darwin in 1835, which subsequently published “The Origin of Species”. You can get there by diving cruise.

When to go diving in Galapagos?

Galapagos, as the Ecuador, have 2 different seasons: the dry season garua from end of May to December where the water temperature varies between 18 °C and 22°C. And the rainy season from end of January. Water at this season is 24°C to 30°C.

We recommend you strongly to visit Galapagos from January to May, although it is the rainy season but there are also long periods of sunshine which will be very pleasant. However, if you prefer not to have any rain at all, go during the dry season, but be prepared for a slightly colder water.

Is diving in Galapagos a good idea?

The visibility can go up to 30 meters, and usually it will be between 15 to 20 meters.

Currents are most of the time strong, be ready to experiment drift diving. Be careful in some places they are descending current.

Difficulty: If you want to dive the Galápagos, it is better to be an experienced diver. Mostly because of the current.

The water temperature varies from 18 to 28°C all year long.
