Koh Lanta is a real treasure for people who want to discover diving in Thailand. This archipelago brings together lush forest, blue lagoons with white sandy beaches, and it is far from mass tourism. Those islands remains authentic, friendly and welcoming. If the surface is more than attractive, the seabed is simply amazing and count some of the best dive sites in Thailand: Hin Daeng Red Rock, Hin Muang The Purple Rock and Koh Haa.

Best period to go diving in Thailand?

The best period to visit Ko Lanta is the dry season, between November and May.

Scuba diving conditions

Visibility : generally you will scuba dive in a clear water with 15 to 40 meters visibility. Between March and April, the visibility will be poorer due to the high concentration of plankton, luckily for scuba-divers this attracts whale sharks and manta rays!

Currents varies depending on the tides and the dive spot. If you want to avoid it, don’t dive around full moon and black moon.

Difficulty will also depend on the dive site. Koh Lanta is a perfect destination for both experienced and beginner divers. We highly recommend to experienced divers to go to Hin Daeng, Hin Muang. Those 2 dive sites are known to be the best in Thailand. We have great chance to encounter whale sharks and mantas there. For novices, the spot of Koh Haa will be perfect.

The water temperature almost never changed and stay around 29°C.

What to see underwater?

The flora is extremely diversified, very well preserved and wonderfully colored. Divers will admire a multitude of coral varieties, gorgonians or anemones. This offers an exceptional shelter for marine animals. If you are the lucky one you will cross the way of whale sharks and manta rays. If you are not, no worries there is also eagle rays, leopard sharks, gray reef sharks, blacktip sharks, hawksbill turtles, barracudas, tunas, moray eels, octopus, cuttlefish, Grouper, pufferfish, trevally, bat fish, fusiliers, or even smaller species such as: ghost fishes, seahorses and nudibranchs. With so many marine species, you will not have enough of your 2 eyes to see everything.
No reason to hesitate, if you go to Thailand you must go dive in Lanta.
