This is definitely one of the best diving trip in the world. This diving destination is exceptional. Although the word Micronesia means “tiny islands” in Greek, the country is almost the size of the United States and consists, as its name indicates, of a multitude of small islands very far apart one to another. Exotic and remote destination, Micronesia offers a lot of surprise on land as well as under water. To enjoy your trip, as every dive site can be far apart, we advise you to book a liveaboard Micronesia.

Diving in Micronesia allows you, among other things to make beautiful wreck dives on Second World War wrecks, to dive into huge lagoons, to discover some of the most beautiful fish in the world, to do intense drift diving and discover dizzying drop off.

The best regions for diving in Micronesia

Micronesia is positioned on the edge of the magnificent Coral Triangle and Palau and Yap are on impressive faults, attracting many pelagics. The different regions to dive in Micronesia all have their own interest and speciality. To choose the right liveaboard or dive center in Micronesia, you should definitely check the different regions of micronesia.

Diving in Palau, fish everywhere

Located in the far west of Micronesia and nearly 900 kilometers from Indonesia and the Philippines, Palau is made up of nearly 350 islands and has nearly 1,300 species of fish and 800 species of corals. The region is at the center of three major ocean currents, which drain a lot of plankton and food. Scuba diving in Palau allows you to discover an extraordinarily rich biodiversity between large pelagics, sharks and small reef fish. If you visit these islands, we advise you to find a liveaboard in Palau. Moreover, icing on the cake, Palau is accessible to all diving levels from open water divers to very experienced divers and offers a wide variety of dive type between drift, wreck, and drop offs. The main dive sites in Palau are the Rock Islands archipelago, entirely covered with small paradise islands and the famous Jellyfish Lake.

Diving in Yap

The island of Yap, still very traditional and charming, is located west of the Caroline Islands, in the center west of Micronesia and has a huge reef almost 150 kilometers covered with drop offs, caves, trays and canyons. The island is particularly known in the world of scuba diving because you are sure to dive with manta rays throughout the year. However, with nearly 30 different dive sites, the island also offers diving with sharks and dolphins with a visibility of more than 30 meters throughout the year. It also has one of the best maintained coral reefs in the Pacific.

Diving in Guam

Most divers travel through Guam before traveling to Truks, Palau and Yap Islands. However, the island still deserves to stay a few days and also has the best infrastructure of Micronesia and offers beautiful scenery and beautiful dives.

Diving in Pohnpei

Pohnpei is the most populous of the 600 islands of the Federated States of Micronesia and is best known for its beautiful postcard scenery with lush, ragged mountains, marvelous waterfalls and the wonderful archaeological site of Nan Madol. However, diving is not left out since we dive there all year around. An interesting crossing point during your diving trip in Micronesia.

The best season for diving in Micronesia

Generally, it is considered that the best time to dive in Micronesia is from September to May, but there are extraordinary conditions all year round. Note that the concentration of manta ray in Yap is higher from December to April. In addition, be aware that Micronesia has a humid tropical climate and that it rains quite often and throughout the year.

Diving conditions

Visibility is generally between 20 and 30 meters. Which is particularly exceptional.

Current: In general, the current in Micronesia can be considered as medium with some drift dive sites where currents are strong and some sites in lagoon where the current is non-existent.

Required level: It is possible to enjoy dives in Micronesia with a Level 1 but some dive sites and wrecks of Truk are reserved for Levels 2.

The water temperature in Micronesia is stable around 28°C throughout the year.

Liveaboard in Micronesia

The ideal way to enjoy your stay is to book a diving cruise in Micronesia. There are about ten boats to discover Truk and Palau. Concretely if you want to dive on magnificent wrecks, we advise you to privilege a diving cruise in Truk. If, on the other hand, you want to dive with manta rays, a multitude of pelagics, a dense fauna in the middle of a variety of diving types, book a dive cruise in Palau instead. To know that often, divers like to combine a diving cruise with a short stay in a hotel with the manta rays of Yap.

By choosing the dive cruise in Micronesia option, you will not necessarily dive on very different sites than by choosing the hotel and dive shop in Micronesia option. On the other hand, you will save hours and hours of speedboat, you will enjoy exceptional panoramas in the midst of a flourishing nature and you will certainly dive more. Moreover, there are different standards for all budgets with luxury liveaboard in Micronesia such as the Palau Siren or slightly cheaper liveaboard trips such as the Thorfinn.

Liveaboard in Palau

There are about a dozen diving cruise ships in Palau. Most cruises last from 5 to 12 days. Some itineraries are reserved for Level 2 Advanced open water divers with dozens of dives logged, while others are accessible from the open water level. There are also very beautiful luxury liveaboard trips in Palau such as the Palau Siren or the Rock Isalnd aggressor.

Liveaboard in Truk

The two most famous dive cruisers are the Truk Master and the Thorfinn and usually offer 8 to 10 day cruises. Only Advanced Divers or Level 2 divers with at least 10 dive logs will be able to book a diving cruise in Truk. Indeed, some of the wrecks visited are relatively deep
