The Maldives archipelago it consists of 1,199 islands, 202 are now inhabited. In the heart of the Indian Ocean, these islands are the dream of all divers. With its azure lagoons and its 26 white sand atolls, the Maldives can satisfy all your desires for adventure and emotion. Diving is also the perfect place for all the divers from beginners to super expert. In addition, you will receive a warm welcome from its population as original as friendly.

Best time to go diving in the Maldives

You can dive in the archipelago all year long. However, there are, very heavy rains during monsoon periods April to October, especially between June and August. On the other hand, you recommend you to stay in Maldives between 10 and 15 days, in order to be able to discover the best dive sites all around.

Diving conditions

The visibility is very very good: from 20 meters to 50. No worries, if you are unlucky and go for diving the only day with bad visibility, this means that the water is full of plankton. So you might have great chance to encounter whale sharks, feeding from those little organism.

Sea currents can be very strong. Indeed, near the passes of atolls, the currents are so strong that they bring large specimens. It is therefore necessary and mandatory to have a signaling system on the surface.

Difficulty differs depending on the dive sites. There is places for every level, from simple beginners to the most experienced divers. For novice divers, Vaavu Atoll is perfect for admiring manta rays on the site of Fotteyo Kandu, from May to July. For the one seeking for challenge, the Kuredu Express dive site, located on the Lhaviyani Atoll, will add some action to your dives.

The water temperature is almost the same throughout the year. It varies between 26°C and 30°C.

Depending on the chosen dive site, you may be lucky enough to get close to pretty little nudibranchs, leaf fish or toadfish for all the macro photographer. If it’s not enough be sure that you will encounter many reef fish, such as clown fish or angel fish. If you prefer something bigger, you may have the pleasure of meeting barracudas, tuna, but also napoleons, which can be very very large. Looking for even bigger fish?
