I you want to dive in Mexico , In the south east, you will find a small seaside town, full of life, bathed by the sun of the Caribbean, called Playa del Carmen. The city is surrounded by the turquoise waters facing the island of Cozumel and the Riviera Maya, the second largest barrier the world’s coral . The island of Cozumel is also a regulator of natural tides. With this, the waters of Playa del Carmen are rich in nutrients and makes marine life. Extraordinary “Cenote” of translucent waters and players catfish alone are worth the dive trip. The destination is also steeped in history and visiting Mayan sites are worth visiting.
WHEN TO GO ? BEST PERIOD
In terms of visibility, the best time to dive in Playa del Carmen is from November to April. The most touristic season is from December to March and the hurricane season is from July to November. However, if you want to see large pelagic whale sharks, dolphins or manta ray, you should stay there from mid-May to July.
SCUBA DIVING CONDITIONS
Visibility: Good March to September, 30 to 35 meters. Average September to March, France.
Current: Most dives in Playa del Carmen are drift dives. The average current is generally high, but there are sites with low current like Moc-Che and Coco beach that are suitable for novice divers.
Difficulty: Some deep sites with strong currents like El Cantil are relatively difficult; but in general, the dives are accessible to all levels
The water temperature in Playa del Carmen remains throughout the year between 26° and 30°.
WHAT TO SEE DIVING AND SNORKELING?
Playa del Carmen is one of the best diving destinations in the world . You can discover exceptional dive sites, wrecks and beautiful mythical Cenotes. In the cenotes of the Yucatán peninsula, which are beautiful natural wells dug in the limestone over the years, you can dive in crystal clear water and in the middle of the suns rays. It is an experience apart for a diver.
You will also have the opportunity to dive on the best dive sites of playa del carmen, usually suitable for all diving levels. If you have your Level 2 you can go explore the wreck Mama Vina wreck 27 meters long that is worth seeing. You can dive with whale sharks May to July, eagle rays, turtles April to August of sailfish January to June, dolphins May to July, whale sharks May to September and manta rays May to September. From November to January you can also dive with sharks Bulldog , which operates in shallow water, feeding on fish, turtles and other sharks.
