It eats large quantities of phytoplankton. And for this reason, it has been introduced in the United-States in the 70’s, to prevent algae blooms in fish ponds and sewage. With no natural predators in this country, it invaded the Missipssipi, starving other species and endangering the ecosystem. Millions of dollars were used , unsuccessfully, to stop its proliferation ! With its 2 to 3 meters jumps in the air becareful not to be in its way !
