First underwater museum for diving in Lanzarote

The Atlántico Museum of the sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor, located off the island of Lanzarote in Spain, was inaugurated on 10 January 2017. At 14 m deep, this museum, consists of 12 installations and more than 300 sculptures, including 200 large human figures. The goal of this project is to create an artificial reef to house underwater fauna, and to raise public awareness of the existing threats to the oceans.

The statues were made with environmentally friendly materials, and some of them were made by molding the inhabitants of the island. "The raft of Lampedusa", which represents the shipwrecks of migrants on the beaches of the Canaries, is there to remind us "collective responsibility" explains the sculptor. The "Rubicon" installation warns us of the dangers threatening the oceans. There is two different way to visit the museum, aboard a glass bottom boat or snorkeling.
