Anthias Diving: the French diving cruise in the Red Sea, what can be verified

The schedule published by Anthias Plongée shows cruise departures until the end of 2027, departing from Hurghada or Port Ghalib. No Brittany, no French Mediterranean. This simple reference is enough to correct the title of the previous version of this page.

Anthias Diving was presented here as a “traveling club” for guided dives in France. The public information consulted on October 3, 2026, tells a different story: a French structure established in Egypt, a single boat, the Nautile EVO, and one-week circuits in the Red Sea.

This page only repeats what the operator publishes on its website and what two official sources say. No opinions, no visits, no prices.

Who is Anthias Plongée, and why is it not a club in France?

Anthias Plongée is a dive cruise created by two French people, Isabelle and Serge, who say they have been based in Egypt for nearly twenty years. The official website, anthias-plongee.fr, describes an operation with a single boat, the Nautile EVO, a team of about twenty people on land and on board, and French-speaking instructors.

The word “traveling” probably comes from the very principle of the cruise, since the boat changes site every day. But everything takes place in the Egyptian Red Sea, between the northern wrecks, the Ras Mohammed reserve, and the offshore reefs. Nothing on the pages consulted mentions outings in France. The previous page thus mixed a real operator with a promise it does not make itself. The name is also problematic.

The site talks about Anthias Plongée, never about Anthias Diving.

Be careful with homonyms when searching online. There is a center “Anthias Divers” listed with PADI in Egypt, an “Anthia Diving Center” in Sesimbra, Portugal, and a boat “Anthias” in Indonesia, three structures distinct from this one. So check the website address before filling out a contact form (homonyms appear closely together in search results).

What cruises does the Nautile EVO offer?

The operator publishes about ten one-week circuits, with departures on Sundays from the New Marina in Hurghada or from Port Ghalib, further south. The names recur from one season to another: Vertiges et Légendes in Safaga or Tiran version, Légendes et Brothers, Golden Triangle, Best of South, St John’s, family circuits, Total Red Sea, and custom.

Circuit Main area Level published by the operator
Vertiges et Légendes (Tiran) Northern wrecks, Ras Mohammed, Tiran Strait Level 2 or Advanced with Deep Diver for the Rosalie Moller wreck
Légendes et Brothers Northern wrecks, Brothers Islands N2 or Advanced experienced, strong currents possible
Golden Triangle (BDE) Brothers, Daedalus, Elphinstone Confirmed N2 or Advanced Deep Diver experienced
Families (North) Abu Nuhas, Thistlegorm, Tiran, Safaga Non-diving children trained on board (FFESSM, PADI or SSI)
Best of South, St John’s, Coral and Colors South Red Sea Not detailed on the pages consulted

The boat measures 42 meters by 8.50 meters wide, according to its sheet. It lists two 8.5-meter rigid inflatable boats, oxygen with masks and BAVU, a defibrillator, first aid kits in the tenders, and a nitrox tank suspended 6 meters under the hull. Nitrox is announced for everyone. Training is offered every week. And the site warns that the sites “may vary depending on the weather or government directives.”

Read this sentence as a rule of the game.

A circuit sold with the Thistlegorm or the Brothers remains a provisional program, and the final decision is made on board, at the briefing, depending on the sea and the authorizations of the day.

What level is required for the Brothers and the Golden Triangle?

For Legends and Brothers, the operator requires a N2 or an experienced Advanced Open Water diver. For the Golden Triangle, it states “confirmed N2 or ADV with the experienced Deep Diver specialty.” Both sheets mention the possibility of strong currents. These circuits are therefore not aimed at a diver who has just obtained their certification and has never experienced currents.

Why so much emphasis on experience?

The Brothers, Daedalus, and Elphinstone are offshore reefs, far from the coast, with drop-offs and few natural shelters when the sea rises. The current dictates more than the photo. An Advanced certification obtained in four days says nothing about your ability to manage a rapid descent, a return to the mooring against the current, or an ascent in open water with a surface marker buoy. However, the site does not publish a minimum number of dives in the logbook. Ask the question, and also inquire if a safety sausage is required per diver, since the topic does not appear on the Golden Triangle page.

If you hesitate, look towards the northern circuits.

The Vertiges and Legends program goes through the wrecks of Abu Nuhas, the Thistlegorm, and the drop-offs of Ras Mohammed, sites described in detail in our sheet on diving at Ras Mohammed. For what level? The one the dive director will validate on site after your first immersions, not the one you tick in the form. Before choosing, also reread how to safely use a safety sausage.

What does the official sheet say about diving in the Red Sea?

The Egypt sheet from France Diplomacy, consulted on October 3, 2026, recalls that diving is very common along the Red Sea coast and recommends caution. It notes that boats are “sometimes old and poorly maintained” and advises insurance covering medical expenses and medical repatriation.

This last point is easy to verify.

Thus, before paying a deposit, check if your insurance contract covers cruise diving, the depth you aim for, and evacuation from a boat offshore. The sheet also lists hyperbaric chambers on the coast, with facilities in Hurghada and Marsa Alam, but a reef like Daedalus remains several hours by boat. It reminds that the Red Sea is home to sharks, including some dangerous species, with rare accidents. None of this specifically targets Anthias Diving. These are questions to ask any boat, and the Nautile EVO sheet already partially answers about oxygen and the defibrillator.

Tiran deserves a special remark. The strait is located off South Sinai, a region for which the sheet maintains restrictions, except for stays in Sharm el-Sheikh reached by plane. How this applies to a boat leaving from Hurghada is impossible to decide from here, so ask the club which authorizations cover this circuit. For the context of the reefs themselves, our article on diving at Tiran details the sites.

How to book and what to ask before leaving?

You can contact Anthias Diving directly, via the form and contact details published on their website, or go through a partner agency. The operator lists several in France, Switzerland, Belgium, and Canada. No prices appear on the pages viewed, and the schedule only indicates whether a departure is full or still open.

The October 2026 schedule showed several full weeks and a few last spots in November. This changes quickly. Then prepare your questions in writing, in the order that matters for your safety. What level and how many dives are required for this specific trip? Are the dives done in guided groups or independently, and at what maximum depth? What is the fallback plan if the weather closes off the open sea?

Also keep your last day in mind.

The Divers Alert Network recommends at least 18 hours of surface interval before a flight after multiple dives per day or multiple days of diving (recommendation updated in April 2026). Yet many travelers book the return flight on the evening of disembarkation. Before signing, check the time of the last dive scheduled by the trip. To organize the rest of the stay, our guide to diving holidays in Egypt covers practical points. If the schedule does not allow this margin, it will cost you an extra hotel night in Hurghada.

FAQ

Does Anthias Diving organize dives in France?

No, according to public information consulted on October 3, 2026. The operator is called Anthias Plongée and offers cruises in the Egyptian Red Sea, departing from Hurghada or Port Ghalib, on their boat the Nautile EVO.

Is a level 2 certification required to go with Anthias Plongée?

It depends on the trip. The Brothers and the Golden Triangle require an N2 or an experienced Advanced level, with possible currents. Family trips provide onboard training for non-diving children.

Is nitrox offered on board the Nautile EVO?

Yes, according to the boat’s fact sheet, which announces nitrox for everyone and training every week. Check before departure if your nitrox card is accepted as is or if it will need to be renewed onboard.

How long should you wait before flying after the cruise?

The Divers Alert Network recommends at least 18 hours of surface interval after multiple dives per day or over several days. Compare this delay with the time of the last scheduled dive and your flight time.
